Fishing in Vancouver and Fraser Valley is starting to pick up, with the warm weather we have been experiencing, the fish have been active. Sturgeon, Steelhead and Salmon Fishing have all been better than average for early February, see detailed report below.
Vancouver Salmon
Salmon Fishing has been fair to good this past week, winter Chinook are being caught in Vancouver Harbour as well as the Gulf Islands. The Pro Staff Team at Gibbs is on the water on a regular basis and have been reporting some great catches using the new Guide Series Flashers trolled in front of Silverhorde & G-Force spoons. The key to success is trolling near the bottom whether you are using spoons or bait.
Fraser River Sturgeon
Sturgeon Fishing has been fair to excellent this past week, some great reports from last weekend and Monday was a great day on the water with lots of sturgeon between 3 to 4 feet with the occasional fish over 5ft. Best bait was lamprey eel and chum roe fished on the bottom with small offerings. During winter months it is advisable to downsize your hooks and baits for best success.

Vedder River Steelhead
Steelhead fishing has been excellent so far this season, lots of fish being landed both wild and hatchery. Water levels are very high and as of yesterday the river was quite dirty and not really fishable. If the rain holds off we should see some decent water conditions by the weekend. Lots of stories of anglers not respecting others while fishing for steelhead which is sad to hear but not unexpected. The Vedder can be very busy during steelhead season so if you have the urge to step in front of another angler who is fishing their way down a run, step back and allow them to finish. The polite thing to do is to step in behind and follow then through the run.
