Nov 2 Report Update

Hard to believe it is November already, the weather has been fairly mild with off and on rain storms. Fishing has been excellent the past week and continues to produce some great salmon and sturgeon results. We are continuing to offer daily charters through the months of November with our off season rates to take effect on Dec 1.

Early morning fog is the normal start to our mornings in November but once the clouds lift, most days are still very nice. You can expect to have some great days on the water through the month of November and well into December. Best baits right now are chum eggs and chum meat, small roe bags seem to be trick these days, keep your bait small for more bites. If your planning on targeting Coho the Gibbs/Delta Croc in Hammered Brass Red Fire Stripe is a great choice, also float fishing with Gibbs Colorado Blades is another great choice.

Eagle Watching Tours

Bald Eagle Tours are now being offered on out of our Harrison Hot Springs location, each day trips depart at 11am, 1 pm and 3 pm, cost is $69 per person and the trip is 90 minutes long taking you down the Historic Harrison River to see the annual Bald Eagle migration to their winter feeding grounds.

Winter Salmon Fishing in Vancouver

For the past 5 seasons STS has been offering guided fishing charters out of downtown Vancouver as well as our Richmond Location near the Vancouver Airport. Oct 17 fishing report update

Some great fishing going on right now for both salmon and sturgeon, the rivers are filling up with salmon and lots of amazing sturgeon going on. The weather hasn’t been the greatest this past week but considering all the wind and rain forecasts we have missed most of it. The next 4 weeks will offer some of the best fishing of the season, take advantage of the great fishing and book today.

This week’s largest landed sturgeon was just under 10ft, a fair number of fish between 7-9ft are being caught and lots of 5-7 footers as well. These fish are now feeding for the winter, how aggressive you ask? Have a look at the pic below, this sturgeon had just eaten a live chum salmon and before it was even swallowed , it grabbed STS Guide Doug Elias bait right after eating a salmon.

Some big Coho around this week, some great fishing on the Harrison River and lower Fraser, you can bar fish, spin fish, fly fish or plunk tee spoons, all these methods are working right now and the action is good. The chum salmon are pouring into the Fraser, Vedder, Harrison, Stave and Dewdney Slough. Lots of Chum boiling and it’s a great time to go out and catch them.

Here is a monster Coho caught by our guests fishing with STS Guide Thomas Rutschmann while bar fishing on the Fraser River.

The Chum salmon are big this year, lots of great action on fly and spoons, our favorite is drifting Colorado blades, Pink wool and Purple Jigs. If your fly fishing try a rolled muddler or a flashabou fly for best results.

If your casting spoons, try the Gibbs Croc Hammered Brass Red Fire Stripe or Hammered Silver with Red Fire Stripe, they both are amazing but most Gibbs Crocs in Brass or Silver will work well.

Our Hells Gate and Canyon trips are done for the season, the past heavy rains have made it dangerous to venture deep into the canyon, by the time the river drops back down we will have the big twin tucked away for the winter. 2017 should be a great season in the canyon and we are already booking up at around 50% > if your looking for a full day in the canyon, book now to get your date reserved.

Have a great week and hope to see you out on the water.

Oct 2 fishing report update

Fishing has been fair to excellent the past two weeks, now that the Fraser is open , we are able to fish for salmon and sturgeon on all charters. Good numbers of Coho and Chinook have been migrating up the Fraser and this past week Chum numbers have greatly increased. The next 6 weeks offers some of the best fishing of the season and we still have some great dates available.

Like I mentioned above, salmon fishing is really picking up, local rivers such as the Vedder, Chehalis and Harrison are really coming into their own now that we have had a bit of rain and some great tides. The guides have been getting some nice sturgeon down in Mission / Chilliwack area , the lower river below Mission is also fishing well.

Opening day, 5 minutes into fishing Thomas landed this beautiful wild Coho while Bar Fishing the Fraser, Bar fishing is one of the selective fishing methods used to catch salmon during Fall salmon migrations. You can Bar fish for Coho, Chinook and Chum Salmon so time to put away the Bottom Bouncing gear.

If you are looking for a guided salmon or sturgeon trip, please give us a call or e-mail. 604-671-3474 or e-mail us at sts@guidebc.com

Have a great day
