Fishing report fopr May 8, 2011

Fishing in Vancouver and the Fraser Valley has really picked up this past week. Both salmon, sturgeon, ground fish and crabs are all fishing very well. June is approaching fast which will offer some great fly fishing for sea-run trout and excellent salmon fishing on the ocean out of our Delta Airport Hotel location. Below you will find a detailed report for what we have been catching this past week.

TV Host Mark Pendlington visits Mission, BC

Sportfishing BC Fishing Show just wrapped up two days of sturgeon fishing with Vic Carrao of STS. After two days of fishing Mark went home with a sore back and arms. Can’t say much more than that other than watch for the show to air sometime in August or September of 2011.

Fishing Report For May 8

Fraser River Sturgeon

This past week we experienced some great sturgeon fishing on the Fraser, we fished several areas including the lower river out of our Delta Airport Hotel Location. Sturgeon Fishing is without a doubt the most consistent fishing available anywhere in British Columbia. An average day is 6 to 10 fish with a great chance at catching fish well over 200 lbs. This past week we landed several monster sturgeon and plenty of smaller 3o to 80 lb fish.

Gill & his boys are visiting us from Ontario this week, this was just one of 8 fished landed yesterday.

This group from Beecher Carlson is visiting Vancouver for a conference, they took an afternoon off from meetings and joined us for some great sturgeon fishing.

This was the first fish of the day weighting approximately 80 lbs, not bad for their first sturgeon.

Sturgeon are biting on Ulichons ( small bait fish), salmon eggs and Lamprey eel, the key is to find where they are feeding and be quick on the hook set. These fish are dropping bait quickly so if your sleeping at the wheel you’re going to miss a lot of bites.

Vancouver Salmon Fishing

Fishing has really picked up in the Vancouver area as well as Gulf Islands. We spent Thursday out on the water and returned back to the dock with a boat load of sea-food.

Trolling Hoochies, spoons and Anchovies will produce fish, we found that more hits were coming from green glow hoochies but we also got a few strikes on Anchovy.

We found that most fish were suspended just off the bottom although when the tide turned we see fish working the mid range depths.

Our 26ft Grady White Express is one of the top guide boats on the water, come join us for some great action as the salmon season is just getting under way.

Rock Fish and Cod is now open in specific areas along our coast. These fish make for a great feast after a long day on the water. Add some Dungeness crab and a few Chinook and you have a great day on the water .

When you return to the dock our guides will ensure your catch is cleaned and packaged for your trip home

Trout & Steelhead Fishing

Local waters are producing some great trout fishing, for those of you looking to take the family out, check out the stocking program from Fraser Valley Hatchery. Local lakes are regularly stocked and offer some great lake fishing opportunities. http://www.gofishbc.com/stockingreports/default.htm

For those of you who would like a guided experience on some of the less fished trophy lakes in the Interior, we offer day trips into Merritt and Kamloops area. Our fly fishing guides can not only show you some of the best waters in the region but also teach you how to fly fish for trophy rainbow trout. We are licensed for over 50 lakes and rivers and offer daily fly fishing trips from Mission and Vancouver.

Vedder River Steelhead

The Vedder River is currently open for fly fishing for steelhead until May 31. Water conditions are very good considering all the rain we have had this past week. Most of the productive fly water is in the lower river but so are all the fisherman. Dont over look the fishing just below the Vedder Crossing as when I was out the other day this area was void of anglers. Once steelhead season is closed the Vedder will re-open on July 1 for Chinook Salmon.

If your looking for the ultimate fishing holiday, corporate outing, team building or just a day trip on our local waters with family or friends, let our team of professional guides look after all your needs. Our phone lines are open from 8am to 8pm 7 days a week or you can e-mail us anytime at sts@guidebc.com

Hope you have a great week and keep those line tight.
