August 16 update

The last few days we have seen some great salmon fishing out in the Vancouver area, although I only hooked 2 yesterday we landed 9 the day before and another 3 Chinook today. We should continue to see good catches of salmon out in the Vancouver area well through August and even into September.

I just read the latest Fisheries update and although they have closed the Fraser to salmon fishing for the time being, there are some substantial numbers of salmon rounding the corner of Vancouver Island and on their way to the Fraser. I would guess that this temporary closing of the Fraser River will be short lived so I would not get too excited yet.

If you are looking to get out for salmon, we have charters departing from the Delta Hotel & Granville Island daily.

Sturgeon fishing remains slow in the Mission area but lots of large fish rolling on Hatzic Flats, we have some good tides coming next week so we should see some improvement. The Canyon and mid river area is fishing fair to good and lower down near the Pitt has been good as well.

We will try to keep you up to date as best we can, lots of great fishing coming over the next few months.

August 14 Fishing update

I was out on the water today have a spectacular day of salmon fishing when my phone rings, local fishery manager Sheldon Evers was on the line breaking the bad news to me before i read it on-line. The Fraser River will be closing in a few days for all salmon fishing due to exremely high water temperatures and lack of migrating salmon. That might explain why we hooked 9 chinook today and lost a bunch more.
Until further notice the fraser will be closed to salmon fishing, we can continue to fish for sturgeon and all of our guests will have the option to fish salmon out of our Delta Hotel Location on a first come first serve basis. If anyone else is looking for some great salmon fishing, we still have some dates available for our saltwater salmon fishing.
We don’t expect to Fraser to stay closed for long, we just a bit of rain ( which we are getting as i write this) to get these fish moving up the river. Lets keep our fingers crossed and hopefully we will be salmon fishing on the Fraser within a week to 10 days.
until then we will continue to offer salmon fishing in the Vancouver and Vancouver island areas, sturgeon on the Fraser and Fraser Canyon and our jet boat tours up the Fraser, We are also fly and spin fishing the Pitt River so still lots of options.

Best Regards

August 11 Fishing Report Update

Fraser River Sturgeon

Sturgeon Fishing has been good to excellent the past few days, we have had a few slow trips but some very nice quality fish. Yesterday we landed 7 fish over 5 ft with a couple over 7ft, our guests from Alberta and Texas had a great trip. Water conditions are very good with 6 to 8 inches of visibility and dropping.

This fish measured 7ft 4 and put up a great battle for our guests from Edmonton.

Sturgeon fishing will continue to improve as more salmon enter the Fraser river, we expect the later part of August through to November to be our best fishing of the season. As more sockeye enter the Fraser sturgeon will feed heavily on these fish so if you can get some bellies or other salmon parts, this makes for the best bait.

Our guests visiting from Texas had a great day in the canyon, nothing better than fishing, sunshine and a barbeque to fill the tummy.

Fraser River Salmon

Salmon fishing has been fairly slow on the Fraser although we did manage a few Chinook yesterday Bar fishing around the Harrison River area. Water clarity is good with 6 to 8 inches of visibility and water is still dropping. We are expecting a good push of Chinook over the next few weeks with August 22 being the peak of this run so hopefully we continue to see these great water conditions. Everyone is asking about sockeye, the latest news is that the run has been down sized again due to warm water temperatures so again it is a wait and see. Good news is that there is some great salmon fishing in Vancouver right now so this is your best choice for salmon. We keep our 28ft Kingfisher at the Delta Hotel near the north arm of the Fraser so it only takes minutes to get out to the fishing grounds.

Vancouver Salmon Fishing

Salmon fishing has been fair to excellent in the Vancouver area, yesterday we landed a 28lb Chinook and 5 pink salmon near the North Arm Jetty so it looks as though fish are beginning to stage near the Fraser confluence. It will only be days before all the Pink start moving to the south arm area so action will be fast and furious if you want to catch Pinks. Chinoojk Fishing will also improve as we see the late summer run Chinook arrive so let the fun begin.

This Gibbs/Delta Highliner Flasher has been working real well this year, my favorite for sure

The Pitt River has been fishing well for Bull Trout and salmon, this fishing should continuie for several more weeks until the salmon begin to stage, Fly fishing and spin fishing are both working well, water conditions are perfect .

Hells Gate tours ae nar full , we have an afternoon 2 hour Hope to Sailor Bar tour available for August 24 if you are interested, give us a call or e-mail. The water is just starting to get big so should be a great trip, cost for this 2 hour tour is $99.

My favorite pic of the week.
