Fishing Report for June 28-July 14

Fishing Update for June 28 – July 14

Fraser River Salmon & Sturgeon

The big news this week is the Fraser River , high water is a real concern for farmers who live in low lying areas but other than that I don’t think you need to worry too much about flooding as the water has been this high many times. Media love to over react as this brings in many readers and listeners to their shows. At Mission Harbour we are expecting the river to peak this weekend and then begin to drop rapidly. We should see the river in decent shape for the July 16 salmon opening.

Fraser River Salmon –

As mentioned above, Salmon fishing opens July 16 on the Fraser River, water will be high but we should see decent water conditions by early August. There are a few places to target salmon if the water stays high, mouth of Vedder River is one good bet. We will also be targeting salmon in the ocean and several smaller rivers located in the valley. Target species will be Chinook Salmon and Possibly some sockeye.

Fraser River Sturgeon

Sturgeon fishing has been fair to good this past week even with the high water. One local guide landed a fish over 9ft this week which is a great fish for this time of year. Best bait has been Eulichon and eel, look for salmon eggs to begin producing some nice fish. Primetime Sturgeon fishing is approaching fast, August, Sept, October and November offer some of the best fishing of the year. We still have some good dates available so just give us a call and we will hook you up with that monster sturgeon.

Vancouver Salmon Fishing

We have spent the last few days over at Gulf Islands, fishing has been slower this week with the odd Chinook over 20lbs being landed. Over the next few weeks we will begin to see some better local fishing with Capliano coho and Fraser River Chinook beginning to arrive. As we get closer to mid July the Fraser sockeye should begin to show up so lots of options for our guests. We are now offering 1/2 day salmon 1/2 day sturgeon out of our Delta Airport location so you can experience both fresh and saltwater fishing in same trip. This is a great option if the weather gets nasty or you limit our on salmon early. You must book an 8 hour trip if you want to do a combo salmon/sturgeon.

Pitt River Trout Fishing

We have been on the Pitt all week, water was really high early in the week but has since begun to drop. We had some great trips both fly and gear landing trout between 2 to 9 lbs. Water is in great shape so looks like we will have some excellent fishing opportunities over the next 3 weeks. If you are wanting to get out on the Pitt, please call Tom at 604-807-4819 or Thomas at 604-308 – 5591 as I will be away fishing the west coast for the next two weeks..

Fishing Report for June 18

Overall fishing has been fair to good, this past week we have been fishing the Gulf Islands for Salmon, Pitt River for sea- trout and the Fraser for Sturgeon. All 3 fisheries have been producing fish so it’s just a matter of predicting weather and water conditions.

Fraser River Sturgeon

The Fraser has been fishing fairly well considering the water is high, rising and lots of debris coming down. Yesterday we landed over 20 fish between 2 boats, several fish over 5 feet, lots of smaller fish in the 3-4 foot range. Water is expected to rise again over the next few days but there is lots of fishable water if you know where to go.

This fish measured 6ft 5 inches caught on Saturday near Mission.

Although the water is high there is some good fishing to be had if you have good bait and local knowledge. Some days are a bit slower than others but overall we are averaging 5 to 10 fish per trip. Best bait has been Eulichons and lamprey eel.

Here is one over 7ft landed this week by Greg Anderson of Fort Mac, Alberta.

Vancouver Salmon Fishing

Vancouver Fishing has been fair to good, most of our trips have been over to the Gulf Islands. Weather has been story of the week, winds and rains have made travel a bit uncomfortable but for the most part we have been able to finish all trips. On Saturday we pulled the plug as Gale force winds were expected for the strait.

Small Chinook Salmon caught this week while fishing the Gulf.

Some nice Chinook were caught this week, nothing over 20 lbs but some nice teenagers. Trolling with flashers / spoons & hoochies at 60 to 130 feet seems to be the trick. Thrasher Rock, Entrance Island and 3 miles off Gabriola Island in 600 to 1000 ft all produced fish.

Our new Kingfisher has been on the water all week, we are very pleased with the way this boat handles and works for guiding. The Grady White was a nice boat but this Kingfisher is proving to be a much better boat for fishing, cruising and guiding. We took the girls out for a day in Vancouver Harbour , caught some crabs and enjoyed a great day on the water

Come join us for a Vancouver or Gulf Island Fishing trip, our saltwater boats are moored at the Delta Airport Hotel.

Trout Fishing

We spent several days fishing the Pitt River, fishing has been okay but nothing to get too excited about yet. Water came up high yesterday but should drop back down in the next day or two. Some nice fish being caught on both fly and spoons. Best to book a weekday charter as weekends are getting a bit crazy up there.

A bit wet but Greg and his son enjoyed a peaceful day on the Pitt this week. Only landed two fish but this one was well over 5 lbs.

Over the next few weeks we will be fishing the same three fisheries and a couple more we prefer not to talk about. If you’re looking for a charter in the Vancouver or Fraser Valley area, STS has the team of guides that can find you the fish. Our team are the hardest working guides on the water, let us show you why STS is the leader in the industry.

June 7 Fishing update

Vancouver Salmon Fishing

Fishing salmon out of Vancouver continues to produce good results, Dan was over fishing the Gulf Islands last weekend landing 9 Chinook Salmon in 2 days. Most of the fish were in the teens, a few in the 20 lb range. Most fish were caught on Spoons and hoochies in the 60 to 150 ft range.

Our new 28ft Kingfisher is hitting the water this weekend for the first time, this boat is one of the most comfortable guide boats on the water offering stable and safe rides even in rough conditions. We are excited to get her on the water.

Fraser River Sturgeon

Sturgeon fishing has picked up since last week, we landed several fish over 8ft this week with quite a few fish in the 4 to 6ft range. The Fraser is still on the rise but there are plenty of places to fish out of the main current. If you are looking for a trip this weekend, we have boats available.

Trout Fishing

Trout fishing has been fair to good on both interior lakes and local rivers. Once of our guides just returned from the Merritt area with reports of a 50 fish day. Local rivers are fishing well for trout which will only get better as we get closer to mid June.

Looks like the next few weeks should be great on the water for Salmon , Sturgeon and Trout, if you are looking to hire local knowledable guides, look no further.

Hope you all have a great weekend.
