Been a busy week on the river, we are now back up on the Pitt river for another season targeting Sea-Run Bull Trout, The Fraser Sturgeon fishery is still going well and Vancouver salmon fishing is producing some great results. Over the next few months these three fisheries will be our main focus and for those looking for Salmon and Halibut our West Coast adventures begin in a few weeks. Vancouver Salmon

Vancouver salmon fishing has been very good this past week as has the Gulf Islands, most charters are producing 5 to 15 hook ups with 4 to 6 legal fish. Many of these legal fish are breaking the 20lb mark which is great to see, lots of fish between 14 to 18 lbs as well. Our go to tackle choice is much the same GibbsDelta Guide Series Flashers with G Force spoons or Rhys Davis Teaser Heads with anchovy. The key to using spoons or bait with teaser heads is keeping a good distance between the flasher and lure, general rule of thumb is: spoon or bait fish should be 6 to 6.5 feet behind the flasher, if using needle fish or hoochie, 24 to 26 inches.

Fraser Sturgeon

Sturgeon fishing has been a bit slower this week, our guides are having to work for every fish but that is what fishing is all about. Both Thomas and Braeden have been out on a regular basis and hooking into some nice fish. Speaking of nice fish, congratulations to Steve Kaye for landing his biggest every sturgeon in 18 years of guiding, his monster sturgeon measured a whopping 11’ 2” to the fork. Water clarity on the Fraser is very clear for this time period, I have never seen such clear water in June so should be an interesting summer if the river does not rise again.

Pitt River

The Pitt is starting to produce some decent results but we could use a bit more water and some color in the water. Our guides have been up on the river several days this week and are having some success but fishing should improve over the next week or two. We offer daily charters on the Pitt for fly and light spin tackle. Come join us.

Fraser River Sturgeon Holidays and Charters

2016 should be another great year, as always spring and fall are the two best season for fishing down in the Mission area and the Fraser Canyon is best from late July through to early October with August /September being the two best months. We will be offering our same day trips from Mission but have also added day trips and packages staying in Harrison Hot Springs and Chilliwack. With our new affiliation with BCSFG we now have access to some very affordable packages in these locations.

Fraser Canyon Adventures

For the last few years our Fraser Canyon Adventures have increased in popularity, these trips fill up fast as dates are limited. Already we are seeing a record number of early season bookings and encourage you to book early if you are wanting to experience the amazing Fraser Canyon. Vic Carrao will once again be running his 28ft twin engine jet boat through the canyon up to Hells Gate and catching those long nose Sturgeon that are unique to the Fraser Canyon. Fly fishing The Upper Pitt River

The trout fishing trip is an adventure in itself. We meet at Grant Narrows in Maple Ridge ( 45 minute drive from Vancouver) Grant Narrows is a park located on the south end of Pitt lake, we then boat across to the north end of Pitt lake( 35 minute boat ride) then run our jet boats up this narrow shallow river approximately 15Km and fish our way back down the river. This river is remote with limited access. Lots of wildlife viewing opportunities, including black bears. You can fly fish or spoon fish for sea-run bull trout up to 12 lbs, good numbers of trout between 2 to 5 lbs with the odd fish between 5 to 10 lbs. There are also cutthroat and rainbows in this river. The cost for this trip is $850.00 for 1 or 2 anglers, includes lunch and all tackle. Read more at

For the past 5 seasons STS has been offering guided fishing charters out of downtown Vancouver as well as our Richmond Location near the Vancouver Airport. Our salmon fishing begins in January with Winter Chinook fishing lasting through until early Spring, we then switch to Gulf Islands for April, May and early June, then back over to Vancouver area for August & September. Fly Fishing Vancouver and Upper Pitt River

Vancouver fly fishing offers some of the best fly fishing in Vancouver area. Locally within 30 minutes from the city of Vancouver you can experience fly fishing for salmon, fly fishing for trout, and fly fishing for steelhead. We fish 7 river systems & 50 lakes including fly fishing the Upper Pitt River and fly fishing the Fraser River, all of which are within 90 minutes of Vancouver including several remote rivers. Fly fishing in the Vancouver region is a year round fishery with calm open waters. We fly fish during winter months for trout and steelhead on both the Fraser River and Vedder River, once spring arrives we continue to fly fish for steelhead but turn our trout fishing to the Fraser River where millions of salmon fry are migrating to the ocean. Steelhead fly fishing is one of the most challenging and rewarding fisheries in our region. We offer both guided day trips and instructional fly fishing lessons.

June & July provide some of the best fly fishing for sea-run trout on the Upper Pitt River. We spend most of the summer fly fishing this river for trout up to 10 lbs. This fly fishing adventure begins only 40 minutes drive from Vancouver with a spectacular boat ride across one of the largest tidal lakes in North America. This 3lb trout was caught during the month of June, all fish caught on this river are released unharmed.

Salmon fly fishing begins in late summer and lasts until well into the month of November. Each river system has it’s own unique fisheries and best times to fish. We offer fly-fishing for salmon on the Fraser River, Harrison River, Pitt River, Lillooet River, Stave River and several other local rivers.
