March 14 Report

Fishing has been good this past week, Tom, Thomas and Chad have all been out on the water having good success for both steelhead and sturgeon. I am in Edmonton attending the Edmonton Boat Show this coming weekend. If you live in the area, be sure to drop by and say hello. HCM will also been at the show with their new 28ft twin and a beautiful 20 ft jet boat.

Vedder Steelhead

Tom Pearce caught this fish yesterday on the Vedder River, nice fish.

Water conditions on the Vedder are perfect for steelhead fishing, fish are spread throughout the river with all areas producing fish. Our guides have a few honey holes that are producing fish daily, if you are looking for a trip out on the Vedder, the next few weeks should be good. Most of our fish are being caught using cured salmon eggs and shrimp, some anglers are doing well with jigs, spoons and artificial baits.

Sturgeon Fishing

Sturgeon fishing was good this past weekend, our group from Powell River managed to land 12 fish in two days, several larger fish over 6 ft which is great for this time of year. Water temperatures are still below 40 but it won’t be long before it starts to warm and fish become more active. Our next peak sturgeon fishery is mid April through to early June when sturgeon will be feeding on Ulichons, this fishery is very active with many double digit days.

Vancouver Salmon Fishing

Salmon fishing round Vancouver Harbour has been slow to fair, some of our associate guides have been on the water this past week with limited success. Winter Chinook fishing in Vancouver can be quite productive, it is also very unpredictable. Over the next few months we will have some great days and some stinkers, crab fishing is always good and the scenery is spectacular. If you have never experienced Vancouver’s Sky line form the water, it is well worth the time and money.

By mid May, weather and fishing improves greatly in Howe Sound and Gulf Islands. This is when we start running over to thrasher rock and a few of our other favorite fishing haunts. Ground fish, shell fish as well as salmon are available on this 8 to 10 hour trips. Our new 28ft twin HCM pilot house fishing machine should be on the water by late June just in time for this great fishery.
