March 29 Fishing Report Update

I’m off to Edmonton for the second and last trip of the spring trade show season. This time I will be at the Fishn Hole Show at the Mayfield Center working for Pure Fishing. We will have a small display but if you drop by show you will find me at the Pure Fishing Booth ( Berkley/Fenwick) or selling rods and reels in the Fishn Hole Tackle area. Please drop by and say hello.

Vancouver Salmon Fishing

We had our new Grady White out today for an afternoon trip, weather was not that great but fishing was decent. Dan and Chad ended up taking home several nice Feeder Chinook as well as some Dungeness Crab. The salmon fishing will begin to pick up as we get further along in the season, we are now starting to head over to the Gulf Islands fishing for larger Chinook Salmon up to 30 lbs. We can also fish for bottom fish and crab as well. Todays Chinook were caught just outside the freighters in 70 to 90 feet of water, trolling spoons.

Vedder Steelhead

The last few days the river has been low and clear , fishing has been more difficult than the previous few weeks with our guides working much harder to find fish. Gerry was out last night as saw a few rising fish but no takers. We still have a good 4-6 weeks of steelhead fishing before these fish move onto the spawning grounds. Fly fishing, fishing with bait or artificial eggs are all producing fish. As we get closer to May trying using single jensen egg with white wool, it’s one of my favorite lures for April steelhead fishing.

Pitt River Trout fishing is approaching fast, we have a great season last year and expect another great fishery. June is our best month, book now before the limited dates are gone.

Fraser Sturgeon

I was out on Sunday with the family and had a great day, we didn’t fish much but did manage to use up 100 shot gun shells while shooting clay pigeons. We did fish for a couple hours and landed 1 – 4 ft sturgeon. Thomas was out guiding for us on Sunday as well and managed to land 4 or 5 fish, nothing real large. During the BCFR fishout there were several large sturgeon caught, one over 8ft which was measured and tagged and a reported 10 plus footer. Overall the river is fishing about average for this time of year, still need to work for your fish but that is expected. Best baits have been Lamprey and Ulichons, some fish on salmon eggs a well.
