May 8 Fishing Report Update

Fishing this past week has been a bit slower, average sturgeon catch has been between 4 to 8 fish per trip, salmon fishing has been good with 2 to 6 hook ups. Crab and prawn fishing remains good. Local trout fishing is starting to pick up and with the good weather upon us we should be in for a great weekend of fishing and sunshine. See below for detailed report.

This was our largest fish this week measuring 8ft 4 inches, nice work Thomas.

Fraser River Sturgeon fishing has been a bit slower this past week, water levels on the Fraser are rising slowly , Hope water meter station is showing a rise from 5.75M to 6.01 M so looks like freshet has begun. I was up in the canyon earlier this week and the Thompson River is on the rise as well so I would expect this trend to continue over the next 4 to 6 weeks. Most of the snow pack is going to come from Prince George/North area so that would be the best area to watch if you are keeping an eye on water levels.

Even though sturgeon fishing is not quite as hot as it was last week we are still producing some nice fish, largest this week was 8ft 4 and we managed some really nice 4 to 7 footers as well. Lamprey eel seemed to work best but Eulachon and salmon roe are also producing some nice fish. As seen in the above pic, Berkley Gulp scent can sometimes get these fish feeding, these spray bottles make it easy to use and is available at most tackle stores.

Vancouver salmon Fishing has been good this past week with some very nice fish coming from South end of Bowen and Tungstal Bay, Gulf Islands are starting to pick up as well so good time to get out on the water. Crab and prawns are also producing good results if you have the time to drop the traps. We are currently offering day trips to Gulf Islands and Vancouver area fishing all the local hot spots.

Our 28ft Kingfisher is one of the most comfortable boats to fish from, rigged with the latest tackle from Penn, Fenwick ,Gibbs/Delta & Scotty

Pitt River Fly and Spin Fishing trips will begin in the next 3 to 4 weeks when the annual run of sea-run Bull Trout begin to enter the river. STS has been guiding this river for over 15 years now so we are super excited to get the season started. The sea-run Bulls that enter this system are chrome bright and ready to put up a great battle on light tackle.

One of my favorite places to spend the day, the Upper Pitt also offers great scenery and wildlife viewing opportunities.

Best fishing for sea-run Bull Trout is between June 5 to July 15, then Sockeye and Chinook begin to enter the river system. For fly fishing we like to use large streamers and egg suckin leeches, for spin fishing, nothing works better than Gibbs/Delta Ultra Lures or Crocs. Most fish are in the 1 to 3lb range but also some larger Bulls in the 5 to 10lb range. All fish are catch and release on the Pitt River system including salmon.

Mothers Day is on Sunday, great day to take mom out on the water or even better fishing for salmon or sturgeon. We still have a few boats for this weekend if you are looking to get out. We are also offering 2 hour Harrison River Tours which is would be a great way to spend the day with Mom, only $69 per person.

Happy Mothers Day Mom and my beautiful wife.

Have a great weekend.

April 28 Fishing Report Update

Fishing has been excellent this past week, lots of action for sturgeon on the Fraser and salmon in Vancouver. Crab and prawn fishing has also been good. Tradeshow season is almost over but there are still a few local in-store sales and smaller community shows. We will keep you posted. Please see below for detailed report.

Sturgeon fishing has been good to excellent, we have been fishing the Mission area as well as the lower River near our Vancouver location and doing quite well. The above picture was taken end of last week, 12 fish in less than 2 hours with a few double headers, most fish were caught using Eulachon.

The area above and below Mission has been fishing excellent as well but we have noticed a bit of a slowdown this past weekend. Could be caused by the rising river as we have had some serious rain storms up north and locally. Best bait has been Lamprey eel and Eulachon, a few fish on pike minnow and salmon eggs as well. We still have some openings for this week and next weekend if you are looking to get out on the water.

Vancouver Salmon Fishing

Vancouver Salmon Fishing has been good to excellent, this fishery is day to day as fish move in and out but overall fishing has been good for both salmon and crabs/prawns. South end of Bowen is fishing well and when wind picks ups Tungstal Bay is also producing some nice fish. This time of year you want to fish deep, 120 to 150 feet near Bowen Island, 60 to 80 feet closer to Vancouver Harbour.

Techniques used to fish for salmon are trolling flashers with spoons or bait, our best luck has been with the Gibbs/Delta STS UV Glo Flasher trolled infront of a G-Force Glo Spoon or anchovy with a Rhys Davis glo teaser head. Trolling speed is between 2.0 – 2.3 MPH at 128ft. If your are trolling either one of these make sure you run a good length for leader, we recommend 5 to 6 ft of leader between flasher and bait.

The local Vancouver Salmon fishery should continue to produce good results over the next 2 to 3 weeks then the Gulf Islands will start to heat up, these trips are 10 hours as there is over 2 hours of travel time back and forth to the fishing grounds. If you are looking for a great fishing trip for salmon and Halibut, our west coast trips begin middle of June through to end of July.

Big Ling Cod like this one are a regular catch while fishing the West Coast, we also catch Yellow eye, snapper, black bass, chinook, coho and halibut on these trips.

If you would like more information on our west coast salmon and halibut trips, please call or e-mail us, I still have two trips to sell in July which is primetime. Accommodations, all meals and 10 to 12 hours of guided fishing at a great price.

Hells Gate Jet Boat Tours & Harrison River Tours

We have had a few private tours up to Hells Gate already, water conditions are still good but won’t last for much longer when Freshet begins. Our seat sales for August are beginning to fill up but we do have space on two dates, August 16 & August 23. These are 4 hour round trips from Hope to Hells Gate, cost is $139.00 per person. We are also offering afternoon 2 hour Hope to Sailor Bar trips for $99, these trips start at 5pm from August 14 to Sept 15.

Hope you all have a great week, see you on the water.
