June 10 Fishing Report Update

It’s been a good week of fishing in the Fraser Valley and Vancouver area, we have been targeting Bull Trout on the Pitt River, Salmon on the ocean and Sturgeon on the Fraser. All 3 fisheries have been productive and some very nice fish being caught. See below for detailed report.

Vancouver salmon

Fishing has been consistent and productive this past week, our pro guides have been putting them in the boat and having some great days on the water. Howe Sound, Vancouver Harbour and Gulf Islands have all been producing great results. Our West Coast salmon and Halibut charters are starting up in the next few weeks, we still have space available if you are looking to fill the freezer with some tasty salmon and halibut. If your heading out yourself don’t forget to pick up some of them killer guide series flashers by Gibbs/Delta, they are some of the best flashers we have ever seen and produce results.

Speaking of results and GibbsDelta, they have just come out with a new spoon for lake trout fishing that will work great for trolling for trout and kokanee. The new “ Mini G” will be out on the stores shelves in the next 3 to 4 weeks so have a look for them and give them a try.

Pitt River Trout Fishing

The Pitt River Trout fishery has begun, we are now offering daily fly fishing and light tackle spin fishing on the Pitt. Water conditions are perfect for catching these migratory trout ranging from 1 to 8lbs and a chance a catching the odd larger one up to 12lbs. This past week was good with some nice 5 to 6 lb fish caught and released on both fly and spoons. If your like me and love spoon fishing, there is nothing better than the Gibbs Ultra Lure or Croc, size will depend on the depth and current speed but remember to retrieve slowly as this is the key to success. Let the current do the work and just reel enough to keep the spoon off the bottom.

Here is a beauty Bull Trout caught on a Gibbs Croc this week by guest Ken Morrison,

Here is another nice fish caught using a streamer fly fishing shallow close to shoreline.

Fraser River Sturgeon

Sturgeon fishing has been good this week, numbers of fish are down but size has been story. 2 fish over 8ft and 1 over 9 makes this week a great one. There has been no best bait, just lots of drops and patience has been the key. Getting the bait down to the fish and in front of them has been more important then what bait you use. We offer daily charters from Mission, Chilliwack, Harrison and Hope, if you’re looking for that great adventure on the water, give us a call and let us show you some great fishing.

September, October and November are all great months for sturgeon fishing, if you are planning a trip out to the Fraser, these are the best 3 months to fish. We offer daily sturgeon and salmon trips and can put together a package for any group size. Book now for your best dates in Prime Season.

Our Hells Gate Tours are booking up nicely, we still have a few seats available August 6, 20 and 28 and we have a new trip going out on July 21 and have seats available for the morning 9am trip. Come and join us for what should be another great season in the canyon

Hope you all have a great weekend.

June 3 Fishing Report Update

Been a busy week on the river, we are now back up on the Pitt river for another season targeting Sea-Run Bull Trout, The Fraser Sturgeon fishery is still going well and Vancouver salmon fishing is producing some great results. Over the next few months these three fisheries will be our main focus and for those looking for Salmon and Halibut our West Coast adventures begin in a few weeks. Please feel free to call or e-mail us with any question, see below for detailed report.

Vancouver Salmon

Vancouver salmon fishing has been very good this past week as has the Gulf Islands, most charters are producing 5 to 15 hook ups with 4 to 6 legal fish. Many of these legal fish are breaking the 20lb mark which is great to see, lots of fish between 14 to 18 lbs as well. Our go to tackle choice is much the same GibbsDelta Guide Series Flashers with G Force spoons or Rhys Davis Teaser Heads with anchovy. The key to using spoons or bait with teaser heads is keeping a good distance between the flasher and lure, general rule of thumb is: spoon or bait fish should be 6 to 6.5 feet behind the flasher, if using needle fish or hoochie, 24 to 26 inches.

This is one of the top producers in the Vancouver area, its named after our company and is called the “STS UV Glo Guide Series produced by GibbsDelta Tackle

Fraser Sturgeon

Sturgeon fishing has been a bit slower this week, our guides are having to work for every fish but that is what fishing is all about. Both Thomas and Braeden have been out on a regular basis and hooking into some nice fish. Speaking of nice fish, congratulations to Steve Kaye for landing his biggest every sturgeon in 18 years of guiding, his monster sturgeon measured a whopping 11’ 2” to the fork. Water clarity on the Fraser is very clear for this time period, I have never seen such clear water in June so should be an interesting summer if the river does not rise again.

Pitt River

The Pitt is starting to produce some decent results but we could use a bit more water and some color in the water. Our guides have been up on the river several days this week and are having some success but fishing should improve over the next week or two. We offer daily charters on the Pitt for fly and light spin tackle. Come join us.

Hope you all have a great week,
