Nov 25 update

STS guide Tom Pearce just called me from the water to say WOW, is fishing ever good. Tom’s out sturgeon fishing with a group from Alberta and they have already landed 13 fish with 4 or 5 over 5ft and 1 over 6ft. Looking like sturgeon fishing is still good and what a beautiful day it is today. If you are looking to get out next week, we are offering our off season rates for the rest of the year. " Fill the Boat for $500 for 4 anglers fishing 6 hours"

This picture was taken in October with one of our groups from Germany, gotta love the great weather

We just joined Trip Advisor as I am being told that it is very important for our business. For those of you that know me, I am a little behind in social media and these types of marketing tools. Although i think we do a pretty good job we can always do better. I have provided a link to our Trip Advisor Page and would welcome anyone who would take the time to post a report, good or bad we appreciate the time you take to do this. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g181716-d2004791-Reviews-STS_Guiding_Service_Day_Trips-Richmond_British_Columbia.html

Winter Fishing Report

Just returned from my annual steelhead trip to Snake River, fishing was crappy but scenery and company was top notch. Most of our time was spend running whitewater and exploring Hells Canyon but we did manage to fish for 2 days without much luck. If you ever get a chance to visit Southern Idaho a tour up the Snake River is a must.

Local Fishing Report for Nov 20

Fraser River

Both salmon and sturgeon fishing has slowed considerably from a week ago but there are still some fish to be caught. The weather is very unstable at this time of year so it is very much a day to day fishery. If the rain and wind are not an issue, fishing is usually decent on both Harrison and Fraser Rivers, if wind comes up it can become very nasty and not allot of fun.

STS Guide Rob Dieleman largest fish of the season measuring over 9ft.

Tom, Thomas and Doug were out this weekend doing sturgeon fishing charters in some of the nastiest weather you can imagine. Although the wind and pelting rain was not on their side, they still managed to landed some fish and provide their guests with a good trip. The rest of the week looks to be mixed with some rain and cloud so really it is unpredictable and you would just have to take a chance and hope for the best.

Harrison

The Harrison River still has a few fresh chum entering the confluence and there are a few coho still around. Fishing is fair to good but don’t expect the crazy action that we were having a few weeks ago. Most of the Coho moving up the Harrison are silver bright heading for the Chehalis river, some will remain in the Harrison so if you know the holding area’s you should be able to find a few fish. The confluence is where the Chum action is and many of these fish are chrome bright. You need to work a little harder for them but still worth the trip.

Vedder River

The Vedder River salmon season is coming to an end but there are still a few salmon around to be caught, mostly chum in the lower river below Vedder Crossing and some nice Coho still being caught above Tamahi rapids. Heard some rumors of a few early steelhead being caught which is pretty normal for this time of year.

Steelhead season really gets started after the Boxing Day Derby which is a great indicator of how the early season will be.

New Steelhead trips for 2013 –

STS Guide Thomas Rutschmann has just got himself a new drift boat for the upcoming steelhead season. Although many anglers frown upon boats and rafts on this predominately walk and wade river, STS has a few long drifts that are rarely seen by walk and wade anglers so there should not be any issues with drifting for steelhead. We will be offering fly fishing, float fishing and pulling plugs for steelhead this winter.

Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing

Salmon fishing in Vancouver is over for the 2012 season but we will start up again in early to middle of February with our winter Chinook Fishery. Our ocean boats are moored at the Delta Airport Hotel and offer easy access to the winter salmon fishery. Until then, your best bet for salmon fishing is in the Harrison or other local rivers.

Vancouver Island Salmon Fishing

Vancouver Island Salmon fishing really gets going in early to mid July with some great fishing for Chinook, Coho and Halibut. Our 4 day 3 night packages offer anglers some of the best fishing the West Coast has to offer in our remote location at the northern tip of Vancouver Island. If you are wanting to experience some of the best salmon and halibut fishing Vancouver Island has to offer, please e-mail or call us for dates and pricing. These trips are limited to 6 anglers per trip so booking early is a must.

Bald Eagle and Winter Jet Boat Tours

We will continue to offer Bald Eagle Tours and Fraser Canyon Tours through the winter beginning in early December. If you are getting cabin fever we have the trip just for you, give us a call or e-mail for trip description and pricing. Jet Boat tours will now be offered out of Mission Harbour as well as Harrison and Hope. Our 28ft twin engine boat is the only Tour boat on the Fraser licensed for 12 passengers, let us show you why we are #1 in Tours and Safaris on the Fraser River.

Nov 2 Fishing Update

This past week water levels have risen on most local rivers, the Fraser was up about 1/2 a meter as was the Harrison. Water levels have leveled off and are now beginning to drop. Water temperatures on the Fraser are in the low 50’s which is normal for this time of year. Last night there was allot of debris coming down the Fraser but I think most of it was from a logging boom that broke apart. Overall it looks like we should have a good weekend, lots of good fishing still to be had.

Although the rain looks like it is never going to stop, we really don’t notice it that much when your rod is cranked over fighting a big fish. Seems like the story of the month for most of our guests, large sturgeon, sore arms, big smiles and lots of fish stories.

Lots of fish in the 5 to 8 ft range being caught, most of them on Chum roe but Lamprey and other salmon parts are also working well.

Sturgeon fishing will continue to produce good results until water temperatures get below 50 degrees, then we will start to see a considerable slow down in catch rates. This usually doesn’t start to occur until mid to late November.

There is a fairly large push of fresh chum that move into the lower Fraser is early November with peak migration in around Nov 14, these chum are called “Black Heads” by local Native groups. These fish will move into the Stave, lower Fraser and Harrison River and are now coming into the Fraser.

At our last Sport fishing Advisory Committee Meeting ( Oct 23)we received our seasonal Salmon update. Looks like we are having a great Fall run of Coho and Chum Salmon with an estimated run size of 2.3 million Chum. This is great news as last year we were well under our normal escapement goals of 1 to 1.3 million fish.Coho fishing is still fairly good, need to work for your fish but they are around and we are still catching them for those anglers who would like to take a few fish home.

Lots of great fishing still to come

The Sturgeon and Salmon fishery is far from over, lots of great fishing still to come for the entire month of November. Although I will be heading down to Idaho for my annual Steelhead trip, Tom, Thomas and Doug will be staying around Mission guiding until end of November.

Target Species for November will be Sturgeon, Coho and Chum Salmon. Some of the best time to fly fish is now,but we can also fish with jigs, spinners and spoons for Coho and Chum Salmon. If your coming on a charter with us in the next few weeks, be sure to let us know if you are wanting to fish for salmon, also don’t forget to get your fishing license on-line before you come.
