August 24 Fishing update

Fishing in the Vancouver/Fraser Valley is starting to pick up, we have been fishing the Fraser for Sturgeon, Vancouver area for Salmon and Vancouver Island for both salmon and Halibut. We have also spent the last few days on the Pitt river fishing for trout which has been amazing with 25 fish landed yesterday. See below for more details.

Our guests from Newlands Systems took the day off to do canyon fishing and some wild and crazy jet boating

Sturgeon fishing has improved in the last few days, we are running daily trips out of Mission, Kilby and The Fraser Canyon, all 3 locations produced some large fish yesterday so hopefully this trend will continue through next week. Can’t really say what best bait is right now because it seems to be changing by the day. Best bet is to run as many baits as you can and see what happens.

Great fish caught by our guests from AQ Smith, nice job boys.

Vancouver salmon fishing continues to produce some great results, we have been out all week and have landed some great fish. The Pinks are starting to get thick out at the north arm so lots of fun catching them on light tackle. Still good numbers of Springs moving holding both at the south and north arms of the Fraser.

Pitt River Trout fishing has been excellent this past week, great time to go up and see bears and salmon spawning. This trip is best done on weekdays when river is quite with no boats, water is getting low so unless you have a specialized boat and plenty of Pitt river experience, I would suggest hiring someone who does.

Our Hells Gate Tours are busy running 7 days a week, we are now offering a 2 hour evening tour to try to meet demand as we are full for day trips until middle of October. If you would like to experience some of the biggest baddest rapids on the Fraser, our 2 hour Hope to Sailor Bar tour is offered every weekend until we run out of day light, trip depart from Hope at 5pm.

Hope you have a great weekend, I know I will.

August 20th Fishing Update

Still no word as to when the salmon fishing will be open on the Fraser but we are expecting to hear something by the end of the week. Until then we will continue to offer salmon trips on the Pitt River and Saltwater out of Vancouver.

Here is a nice spring from yesterday caught near the south arm of the Fraser River

Fishing for both Pink salmon and Chinook salmon has improved this past week, we have experienced some excellent action at the confluence of the north arm, T-10, and Sand Heads. When the bite comes on the action can be fast and furious as some of our guest have experienced, a few days ago we had 3 double headers with 20 lb chinook.

Fishing at our north Island locations is also very good so for those who can spare two days, this fishery offer Chinook & Coho Salmon, Halibut, and Snapper . Fishing will remain good until middle of September so please give us a call if you would like to experience this great fishing.

Fraser River Sturgeon

Sturgeon fishing has been slow on the Fraser near Mission and Chilliwack, lots of big fish rolling they don’t seem to want to eat much right now. I recall the same situation last year about the same time so hopefully it will only last for a few days. We do have some areas of the Fraser that are producing good results so if you are wanting to get out we will do our best to find some fish. Prime time is just around the corner so good time to book for September and October.

We landed this beauty yesterday measuring 7 ft 4 with a 40 inch girth, wow what a fat fish.

August 16 update

The last few days we have seen some great salmon fishing out in the Vancouver area, although I only hooked 2 yesterday we landed 9 the day before and another 3 Chinook today. We should continue to see good catches of salmon out in the Vancouver area well through August and even into September.

I just read the latest Fisheries update and although they have closed the Fraser to salmon fishing for the time being, there are some substantial numbers of salmon rounding the corner of Vancouver Island and on their way to the Fraser. I would guess that this temporary closing of the Fraser River will be short lived so I would not get too excited yet.

If you are looking to get out for salmon, we have charters departing from the Delta Hotel & Granville Island daily.

Sturgeon fishing remains slow in the Mission area but lots of large fish rolling on Hatzic Flats, we have some good tides coming next week so we should see some improvement. The Canyon and mid river area is fishing fair to good and lower down near the Pitt has been good as well.

We will try to keep you up to date as best we can, lots of great fishing coming over the next few months.

Tight lines
