STS Winter & Spring Fishing update for Fraser Valley.
Join us for our 30th season guiding on the Fraser River, going to be another great season.
Although we fish all year round, our next peak fishery is coming up fast. March 15 to May 15 is what we consider a primetime to fish for sturgeon. The reason for this is a little fish called a Eulachon or Smelt or Candle Fish as some call it. These little 20cm fish live in the ocean but spawn in the spring in freshwater. The Fraser River is a major spawning area and sturgeon love to feed on these as they provide nutrients that sturgeon require to stay healthy and grow.
Because sturgeon’s love these fish and feed on them throughout the spring, this is a great time to fish for sturgeon. Believe it or not, sturgeon will feed so much so that their stomachs will actually grow in size and you can actually see the enlarged stomach when you bring them along side the boat. The action can be fast and furious with average size between 4-7feet and good chances at hooking into multiple fish over 7ft.

Family Day Weekend Fishing Fun
Family Day is an important holiday for obvious reasons, here at STS we are all about family. STS was founded by the Carrao family ( Vic & Teresa) and is now owned and operated by the Nootebos family. You might have met owner Tony on a fishing charter and if you have ever taken one of our jet boat tours out of Harrison Hot Springs there is a good chance Molly Nootebos was you Captain. Our children are our future and getting them out fishing is important for the furture of our sport not too mention it’s just one of the most satifying things you can do.

Year of the monster sturgeon
2023 was the year of the Monster Sturgeon,I don’t recall in recent memory so many large sturgeon caught on the Fraser. There were days when multiple fish over 10ft were landed in the same area. In fact I recall someome telling me that on one spring day in April, 3 fish over 10ft were landed near Mission and the next day there was one over 11ft landed. That’s quite incredible and not a common occurance but having said that, these fish continue to grow and thrive and so does the fishery.
Double Header Days
Have you ever expereinced a double header fishing for trout or salmon? Well try that with two 6ft sturgeon like this group. Anytime Sturgeon are feeding agressively like during our Spring Fishery in April there is a good chance that this will also happen to you. It’s a thrill of a lifetime experience when not only one, but two sturgeon come leaping out of the water at the same time. One heading east and the other heading west. Booking your trip during one of our peak sturgeon feeding times will greatly increase your chances.
Winter Fishing Update
With the milder than normal temperatures fishing for sturgeon has been steady and consistent all winter. We have been fishing several areas including the Harrison which provides a unique angling experience fishing shallow clear water. The Steelhead season has been producing some great results on the Vedder River and Trout Fishing on Fraser and Harrison has been steady. If steelhead fishing is something you enjoy, March and April are the two best months. Combine a day of sturgeon fishing and there you have a great allround trip. If fly fishing for Trout is something you would lie to try, our Lillooet trips begin in early March.
