Jan 16 update

The Vancouver Boat Show begins tomorrow, Jan 17 and runs through until Sunday Jan 22. Although STS does not have a booth this year, we do have several sponsors that will be at the show and STS Guide Doug Elias will be at the show representing Pure Fishing (Penn, Abu Garcia, Fenwick). If you’re looking for a specific product drop by and see Doug at the Harbour Chandler Booth or Stevenson Marine. Doug will be rotating between these two booths.

Speaking of trade shows STS will be attending several shows in Alberta, USA and our own Abbotsford Boat & Sportsman Show. Drop by and say hello and meet some of our newest guides and of course our veterans like Tom, Thomas, Doug and Vic. Hope to see you at one of these shows.

If you’re looking to upgrade your electronics, this is a great time to find some discounts on the latest and greatest. For those of you who fish the Fraser for Sturgeon the new Humminbird Helix has really taken off. This unit offers amazing detailed bottom structure reading and side scan sonar. Drop by and see Don at the show, Humminbird will have most of the new 2018 models on display at the Humminbird booth.

We have not been out on the water fishing this past week but we have been out working the Fraser using our side scan sonar for various projects that we are involved in.

These fish will begin to move around and look for food once the water temperatures begin to warm in early spring. This is also a great time to get out on the water and take advantage of these hungry feeding fish. The Eulachon ( small bait fish) will begin to migrate into the Fraser by mid to late March with peak migration around middle to the end of April.

Steelhead season has had a slow start, the Vedder River is producing some nice fish but anglers are really having to work for each and every bite. Hopefully this fishery will pick up over the next few weeks. If your looking to get out on the water and catch a few salmon, our Vancouver winter saltwater fishery is in full swing. STS Guide Doug Elias has been ut several times over the past few weeks and has produced several nice fish. Although this fishery is a bit inconsistent, we do have some great days out on the water in January through to March.

Over the next few weeks our 2018 bookings will increase substantially, we still have some great dates available for both salmon and sturgeon charters so if you are looking for that adventure of a lifetime, please give us a call or shoot us n e-mail.

Hope you all have a great week.

Time to Winterize that boat

December 10 Update

Don’t try this unless you have bolt in windows,

It’s that time of year again when us jet boat owners need to spend a little time getting our boats ready for the cold winter months ahead. This article was written by long time Fraser River Guide Vic Carrao who has owned many brands and styles of jet boats over the past 35 years. There is lots of great tips and tricks to not only store your boat for the winter but also a few winter projects that will improve your boat handling and performance.

Vic also teaches a jet boat course each spring on the Fraser River teaching boaters all about jet boating and the Fraser River.

You can learn more about Vic’s Jet Boat Seminar at

Local fishing report

The Fraser River is producing some amazing results for the catch & release sturgeon fishery. This past week we have had several groups out on the water with 67 fish landed, scanned, tagged and released in only two trips. Although most anglers will put their boats away for the winter we always leave one or two ready to fish as this is a great time for us to get out and tag fish for the Fraser River Sturgeon Conservation Society. If you are wanting to help out with the tagging program, book a winter trip with one of our experienced angling guides.

Salmon season on local river is pretty much over although if you put in the time, you can still find a few late Coho or early run Steelhead in local rivers such as Vedder or Chehalis. Winter Cutthroat fishing has already begun on the Harrison River with some nice fish being caught on the fly. You can also fly fish the main stem Fraser but I would wait another few weeks for water drop a bit more.

If you are wanting to fish for salmon in the winter, our local ocean fishery out of Vancouver can produce results all winter long. This fishery is hit and miss but our last two trips out produced a couple nice keepers fishing the Vancouver Harbour and West Vancouver shoreline. Best results come from trolling GibbsDelta Guide Series Flashers with G-Force Spoons. Our favorite is the STS Guide Series Flasher as it has proven to be one of the top winter producers.

Christmas is just around the corner and our sales team has been hard at work trying to provide our guests with the best possible pricing for those who like to book early. If you book your 2018 STS fishing adventure before Dec 31, 2017 you get an extra 10% off our posted pricing. We also have some great inexpensive gifts ( Ball Caps, Coffee mugs, T-Shirts, Hoodies , Sturgeon Pins) for sale out of our Harrison Hot Springs office or you can just call and order and we will ship for FREE any purchases over $100.00

Hope you have a great week
