April 25 Fishing Report Update

April has not disappointed, the weather was a bit cooler than normal but the fishing action has been hot. Lots of larger sturgeon in the 6 to 8 foot range with fair numbers of smaller fish. The river has been producing good action throughout the lower area below Mission, Mission to Chilliwack and the area between Harrison and Hope.

Baits have varied but one thing that has not is the freshness and how well it has been preserved. Getting good bait has been an ongoing challenge for all guides in the Fraser system, the key is how well you preserve it once you find it. Lamprey eel, eulachon, salmon eggs, salmon parts and pike minnow are all working, just depends on which part of the river your fishing on which bait works best.

Water levels are still what we would consider low but weather forecast is predicting warm dry weather for the next two weeks so we should start to see some snowmelt at higher elevations. This will begin to raise the water levels on the Fraser and begin to color which has already started.

The great sturgeon fishing should continue through most of May so if you are looking for a great trip, we still have some great dates available. Give us a call at 604-671-3474 or email us at sts

Our Fly Fishing trips were a great success during the month of April and we see no reason as to why the next few weeks would be the same. We offer several remote river fly fishing experiences departing from Harrison Resort where our office is located.

The weather forecast for the next two weeks looks to be much like in this photo, clear and sunny so great time to experience this trip. All our fly fishing trips are full day adventures and we provide all tackle including the flies.

Fraser River Fishing Update for March 22, 2023

The Fraser River has been fishing better than average for the past few weeks for White Sturgeon. All of our charters have produced good results and lately there has been some monsters taken to the beach for pics and tagging. As always, all of our guides are participants in the FRSCS White Sturgeon Monitoring Program so all guests will participate in scanning and tagging of white sturgeon they catch.

As mentioned above Sturgeon fishing has been good to excellent the past few weeks. The Eulachons have arrived into the river as sturgeon are now beginning to feed on these as well as other bait fish like lamprey. For those of you who have fished with us in April /May in past years, know how great sturgeon fishing can be, average day is 6-10 with the occasional double digit day. We still have some great guides and dates available to book so please reach out if you would like to come out and experience the great sturgeon fishing.

Sturgeon Fishing will continue to produce good results well through the spring and into early summer. Freshet usually begins around early to middle of May but who really knows with the cooler start to spring were having across the country, we could have a late freshet. Once we do I’ll send out another update.

This summer is the return of the Pink Salmon to the Fraser, they only return every other year. Sturgeon love eating Pink Salmon and key in on them from mid August through to late September. This would be another great time to book a trip with us. They also make great sport for fly fisherman as these salmon will also chase down a well presented streamer.

Fraser Canyon Hells Gate Adventure

We still have a few dates available for our Hope to Hells Gate Adventure. For the 2023 season we will be running the entire month of August, currently we have August 11,14,18, & 24 available. Also still have a few dates in first week. Email us for current availability.

This trip is 132km round trip from Hope to Hells Gate and includes an amazing tour up the Fraser Canyon through steep narrow gorges not seen from the hwy. There are 5 technical rapids that vary in size and degree based on water levels. We include some sturgeon fishing along our way and include a shore lunch on one of the many private sandy beaches. This is a great day for family and friends or bring out your customers for a trip they will not soon forget.

Did You Know ? – our office is located in Harrison Hot Springs Resort Hotel. We not only sell fishing trips, jet boat tours, Guided kayaks tours and rent E-bikes we also sell retail items such as Under Armour Clothing, Garmin Fish Finders, Fly Rods, Custom Flies, Fly Boxes and more. If you’re wanting to stay at the resort hotel, we can help you with your accommodations and making booking easy. Give us a call at 604-671-3474. or 604-796-3345.

Hope to see you out on the water

STS News Update for February 2023

Well the holidays are finally over , spring sportsman shows are now planning their season and early booking season is just getting started. STS is going into our 29th season fishing the Fraser and local rivers like Harrison, Pitt, Stave, Vedder and Chehalis to name a few. We will be attending several shows in Alberta and BC, we will be posting when/where as we get closer to the date. Below I have provided some early spring fishing information.

Steelhead season is going strong and will take us right into our next peak sturgeon fishery, also spring cutthroat fishing. Because the Fraser Fishery is so focused on Sturgeon, anglers often overlook our amazing fly fishing opportunities for both trout and steelhead in March, April and May. You can either focus solely on trout or steelhead or come for a few days and try a little of both.

  • DID YOU KNOW – that STS Guiding started in 1992 as a fly fishing company?
  • DID YOU KNOW – that STS has 100’s of fly patterns that you can learn to tie, all of which are most common and productive for our region. We not only list the pattern we provide a photo and complete instructions on how to tie including the list of materials needed> check it out at :

We also have patterns for salmon, rainbow, lake trout, steelhead and more. Check it out at FLY PATTERNS – STS Guiding Services (guidebc.com)
